Birmingham Scooter Syndicate

We like scooters and sometimes we even ride them, but most of the time you'll find us here talking shit. We meet every Sunday morning at Crestwood Coffee usually between 10 am and noon and sometimes during the week around town.

i had to go over in december to get a tap for a keg that used a euro-tap. it's hit and miss with the bearded guy behind the counter. he's a complete wise-ass, but if your not on the receiving end, he can be fairly funny. i think it is one of the few places that you can get a keg in town these days.

i remember going in there probably 10 years ago and watching some kids get the courage to go in and try to buy beer. they have cameras that stretch to the sides of the building and they can watch everything. there's a bank of tv screens. no sale. the guy told me that they have watched abc people drop underage people off and send them in to buy stuff. funny.

I used to frequent him, but isn't he one of the businesses against changing the alcohol law, ie, the Free the Hops bill? I seem to remember that.

He does have a cool Doberman that watches TV in the back, though.

i think he is on board with free the hops. seems like i remember him being a sponsor of something for them but i could be wrong. as for free the hops, keep your fingers and toes crossed, as the alabama legislative session starts today.

side note, shawnie and I worked the beerfest last year which gets you in free to the other session. When FTH sends out the info, I'll forward it to here in case anyone is interested in doing it this year.

birmingham beverage is the one who was against free the hops.

i volunteered last year too, it was a great time and i'm definitely doing it again this year.

i worked the sunday session and got to just walk in saturday night for free with no line while everyone else got hearded in like cattle after waiting for what? an hour? i think i was up about 8 of those little beer tasting glasses by the time everyone got in. i also took home a couple of cases of left over beer since it was illegal for them to sell it afterwards. now i know to bring extra boxes with me and grab what i can.

we worked the opposite. boy were we surprised when they told us we could not sample as we served. Shocked

i refuse however to serve or serve near the stella or abita purple haze. 4000 references to elaine from seinfeld by saying "steelllllaaaaaaa" and/or people screaming hendrix style, "Purple Hazeeeeee" was almost too much.

i was amazed at the line at the budweiser and miller chill tent. actually i was amazed they were there at all? Confused that's the last thing i want to drink at a beerfest.

i worked under the overhang with john v. and we thought it would be great until the jam band started to play. that was the only thing that i hated about the whole experience. it was nice being under there when the torential downpour happened though. we had fun cutting people off when they were drunk and rude to us too, it was kind of like a little power trip.

i didn't cut anyone off, i secretly wanted then to get their arses kicked after they got to drunk for reasonable behavior or puke. i did hate people that whined about only filling their glass half full, who then would just gulp it down and ask for another, then enlighten me that if i filled it up all the way it'd be easier for both of us. perhaps i should have just cut more people off.

if people were nice about asking to fill it i would, but there was a few that were beligerant about it and i refused to. in fact i wouldn't even fill it half way if they were rude. Twisted Evil

i was amazed at the lack of adventure with some folks, i probably served the equivalent of 4 or more beers worth of stella to some people. i figure if you were gonna stand in one place all night and drink stella, you coulda saved 20 bucks by buying a 6-pack and staying at home.

i kept on getting back in line at good people, and that was a long line too. it was probably my favorite next to the chocolate stout at rouge and saranac carmel porter. the lambics are always good too.

Our friend Michael waited in line at the Good People tent for about 20 minutes and when it started raining he finally reached the table and they told him that they couldn't serve it, due to the inclement weather(which the FTH folks had said). He was so pissed.
