Just wanted to drop a line and say hi to all the fellow scooter-heads. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you and future riding. I scootered down to Crestwood-Coffee this past Sunday-(10-19-08) late in the afternoon. I got there about 4:30pm and met 4 folks sitting outside w/ their vintage vespas-(sweet-rides!!) Due to scooter-fatigue and my red eyes-(i rode 70 miles from out of town to find Crestwood Coffee after finding and being intrigued by this website) I had to ride all the way back home and I didn't get to stay long. I cant remember the names of the fellow scooter-heads i met. Anyway, it was 2 males and 2 females. If any of you 4 happen to read this, hello again-(and thanks for the advice on registering for membership in the syndicate). I'm planning on trying to make it down again this coming Sunday in time to sip some java, talk some scoot, and do some riding. Also-(schedule permitting) planning on riding in the rally in Nov. I was really thrilled to see the level of interest in scooters in the B'ham area. Believe me, I am the ABSOLUTE MINORITY around my town in scooter enthusiasm. I'm not a country music fan, but if you've ever heard that song: "I was country before country was ever cool", that's kinda me w/ the scooters. I've been riding scooters EXCLUSIVELY for the past 10 years-(after switching over from 20 years of street-bikes), and not until recently have I ever passed any other scooters out riding, gas prices probably playing a role-(ya think? lol). One of my scooters was recently stolen, so I started researching new scooters on the internet, running across all kinds of websites on scooters, and that's how I found out about the Birmingham Scooter Syndicate. I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place, but maybe it'll show up somewhere-(my first post). Everybody have a good day, and we'll talk to ya soon. Until then, SCOOT-ON !!!

Yeah, it was good to meet you, but just be warned, we're not usually at Crestwood that late, lol. We just happened to be there after our ride out the 29 Dreams. I take it you made it back to Cullman ok?
Stop by around 10-12 on Sunday and a lot of us will be there!

Ok cool. I'll shoot for that time target-(10a-12p) this Sunday. Made it back fine. I went hwy--31 to 160 and then route-7 or county-road-7, whichever it was. Awesome scenic route btw. I had never been over that way before. It must be a popular motor-biking route though, because when i turned off 31 to route-7 on the way to the 'ham, there was some kind of motorcycle shop or garage or something on the corner, and i bet there was 50-60 motorbikes pulled over taking a break. Large group of harley riders and gold-wing type cruiser bikes. If i'd known the bss "gang-flash" then, i'd flashed it-(lol, just kidding). They all waved and I waved back, looked like a friendly group of adults just out enjoying the day. VERY scenic country route that way. Slow 2-lane, well paved, winding country road. I'll have to show it to you sometime. I was determined to make it to the 'ham NOT getting on I-65-(what fun would that be?lol). A few times along the way to 'ham, I wasn't sure where I was or where the road was going. I figured I was safe as long as i didn't hear "dueling banjos" start playing in the woods-(lol, just kidding). Good safe route-66 type route though. Unless i'm in a hurry to get to the 'ham, i'll always go that way from now on. SCOOT-0N!!!

Hi John, I wasn't one of 'em, but welcome!
I'm a noob myself, to the group and to scootering as well. I haven't had the chance to catch up and ride with folks since my October is insanely busy, but I'm looking forward to November.
See you around! |

lol, cool. good to talk to all of ya again on here. good photos of you. if i'm not mistaken, ginger-snaps is the one on the far left in the "alley" photo. the face and scooter looks familiar from this past sunday. good photo of tang. sitting on that ride too. i am LOCKED and LOADED now-(officially registered w/ receipt in hand) for the rally in nov. and looking forward to it. so what about weather?--is it "rain, sleet or snow" or is it rescheduled in case of storms? i'm ok either way, die-hard scooter rider i am. one more question--if my wife decides she wants to ride w/ us, one of the other scoots i have is a "small-frame" that fits her better, she'll be riding an old honda elite 2-stroke-(aka-"2-banger", "smoker", etc.) that honda quit making a while back--BUT IT HAS LOTS OF CHARACTER!!!! the deal is it's top speed on the flat/st8-away is only about 40mph-give or take about 5mph depending on humidity etc. it will ZIP up to that speed, but no real top-end to hang w/ other bigger-cc motorbikes. would this hold up the pack or is it too slow. be honest, my feelings won't be hurt. i know it's slow, but i'm not familiar w/ the "scooter-edicate" down there yet. just don't want to hold up the pack. educate me. tanx. SCOOT-ON!!!
